"A Season for Nonviolence" began in 1998, the year of the 50th and 30th anniversaries of the assassinations of Mahatma Gandhi and Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.  It was established by Arun Gandhi as a yearly event celebrating the philosophies and lives of these two peace prophets.   The "season" begins with the anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi's assassination and ends with the anniversary of Martin Luther King Jr's assassination.

Since then, this international, grassroots, educational campaign has been celebrated annually in in over 100 cities by sharing "64 Ways to Practice Nonviolence" on the 64 days between January 30th and April 4thA Season for Nonviolence is inspired by the two peacemakers' vision that nonviolence is a powerful way to heal, transform, and empower our lives and our communities.
