Sr. Alice, IHM and Sr. Carolyn, IHM

The 5th of ten children, Alice (age 66) is a Catholic Immaculate Heart of Mary sister and a grade school teacher with 42 years experience. She loves teaching and looks forward to sharing her experiences with her students. She has been involved in the African-American community of Detroit for 30 years. In the past, she has spent her summers teaching in migrant camps, Appalachia, and on Pine Ridge Reservation. Alice is a member of the Immaculate Heart of Mary Peacemakers group and currently resides in Harper Woods, Michigan. Carolyn (age 74) has been a Catholic Immaculate Heart of Mary sister for 55 years. She taught math at Detroit's Marygrove College for 25 years. She is also a member of the Immaculate Heart of Mary Peacemakers group and resides in Monroe, Michigan.

Carolyn has vigiled at the School of the Americas, Columbus, Georgia, the last two years and has participated in Women in Black and other peace demonstrations.

Both women have worked on two peace teams in Israel/Palestine: 2002 and 2004. They were part of peace team that lived in Al Fara' Refugee Camp and documented the human rights situation. On July 12, 2002, Al Fara' Camp was invaded by Israeli Forces. The women tell of their nonviolent response.

The Israeli government demolishes homes, uproots crops, and confiscates land.

Since September 2000, 4,170 Palestinian homes were demolished or blown up by Israeli Defense Forces. 291 acres of land were confiscated. 34,606 olive & fruit trees were uprooted. In East Jerusalem, Palestinian homes are demolished and land confiscated in order to ensure Jews have a majority in the city (the “Silent Transfer”).
