Celebrating Nonviolent Resistance Conference

Michigan Peace Team is pleased to be attending and co-sponsoring the "Celebrating Nonviolent Resistance" Conference in Bethlehem from Dec 27-30, 2005.

Organized by the Holy Land Trust and Nonviolence International, global activists and scholars will attend this historic international nonviolence conference

*To bring together members of the global nonviolent community to discuss the past, present and future of nonviolence.

* To learn first hand about nonviolent activism in Palestine.

Featured speakers include Bernard LaFayette of the Southern Christian Leadership Conference, Mahmoud Abbas, president of the Palestinian National Authority, peace historian Gene Sharp, PETA president Ingrid Newkirk, and representatives of UN Secretary General Kofi Annan, former president Jimmy Carter, and Archbishop Desmond Tutu.

The Israeli government demolishes homes, uproots crops, and confiscates land.

Since September 2000, 4,170 Palestinian homes were demolished or blown up by Israeli Defense Forces. 291 acres of land were confiscated. 34,606 olive & fruit trees were uprooted. In East Jerusalem, Palestinian homes are demolished and land confiscated in order to ensure Jews have a majority in the city (the “Silent Transfer”).
