Summer Peace Team Preparing to Leave

Michigan Peace Team is sending a summer peace team to the West Bank to join Palestinians, Israelis, and internationals who are working nonviolently to end the conflict. Both Palestinians and Jewish Israelis have invited MPT to work with them this summer. This is a critical time, as the presence of internationals is needed following both the Palestinian election in January and the Israeli election in March.

The MPT summer peace team will
watch checkpoints to deter human rights abuses;
help stop illegal home demolitions which devastate families and villages when Israeli bulldozers come at any time day or night;
assist local people who organize nonviolent conflict resolution workshops;
join other internationals to serve as mediators and interveners in times of crisis;
document human rights violations that occur in refugee camps, villages, etc.;
assist with the educational programs for Israeli and Palestinian children;
and of course, experience and learn from the people so that we can bring home firsthand understandings of the conflict.

The team appreciates any donations to help with the costs of airline tickets, lodging, meals, translators, inter-country travel, etc. Checks can be made payable to Michigan Peace Team (memo line: summer team) and mailed to 1516 Jerome St, Lansing, MI 48912.

Excerpt is below: "We will no longer fight beyond the Green Line for the purpose of occupying, deporting, destroying, blockading, killing, starving and humiliating an entire people," declares a petition signed by the reservists. Refusnik Moshe Ingel explains why he refuses to serve in the Israeli Defense Forces in the Occupied Territories: "Because the activities we are told...
