Economic Regeneration
& New Vistas for Peace:
Dinner and Presentations to support Indian Flood Victims
  
Indian and American Communities will gather to honor two of the four Awardees of the prestigious Jamanalal Bajaj Award Foundation of India, including MPT's Peter Dougherty.

Honoring Award Winners: Fr. Peter Dougherty of MPT, and Lavanam Goparaju of the Atheist Center in India. Both men received the prestigious Jamnalal Bajaj Award in Mumbai, India, at a glittering ceremony attended by 500 people in November 2009.    This award is given to people who do exemplary work for World Peace and Social Service in India and abroad. Peter received the Peace Award for promoting Gandhian values outside of India.  He is a teacher and trainer of nonviolence, has worked for social justice in many arenas, and is co-founder of the international peace organization, Michigan Peace Team.  Lavanam Goparaju was  recognized for doing exemplary social work for the poor people in India.    Mr. Lavanam, of the Atheist Center in India, is a well-known senior Gandhian and has received various national and international awards for his work for the rehabilitation of criminal tribes as well as rescuing young girls from prostitution. The awardees will honor those present by lending their thoughts on the following critical subjects for the people of Michigan and the world:
New Vistas for Peace” -- Fr.  Peter Dougherty
and
“Economic Regeneration” - Mr. Lavanam Goparaju
 
You are cordially invited to join us in honoring both of them.
The program will be followed by a delicious, organic gourmet  Vegetarian Indian Dinner. 
 
***Of Special Note:***  A  voluntary donation of $20 or more will be accepted to benefit theSurvivors of The Indo-Pak 2010 Floods.  Floods in the Indian sub-continent have affected over 20 million people: the worst flood of the century.  All gifts over $20 are eligible for 100% tax deduction.
