After meeting Mr. Harold Perry, the Honorary Chief of the Ardoch Algonquin First Nation, we had a chance to meet with a junior settler, John Kittle, today. Even though John spoke about Aboriginal land rights, his conversation mostly was about environmental impacts of uranium. He shared his presentation with us, which he had presented over 30 times to many different groups. His work mostly is on the lobbying part of the campaign. Some of the issues related to uranium mining he mentioned are:

  •  Most junior mining companies are not equipped to deal with radioactive accidents
  •  Since 1996, mining exploration companies have been given a free rein in Ontario
  •  Ontario Mining Act allows free-entry
  •  No public or First Nations consultation required

To me the most striking part of the presentation was to come across Mr. Harris’ unfortunate government policies again, which is perhaps not a surprise to me.
